Mothers Against Violence (MAV) has been a pillar of support for the inner-city communities of Greater Manchester since August 1999. Founded during a critical time when gun violence rampant, MAV emerged in response to the tragic loss of young black males within just eight days. The mothers of the community united to for change, using their voices to spread messages of hope instead of resorting to violence. Today, MAV continues to empower the community through mentoring, programs on gun and knife crime,, workshops, and outreach efforts aimed at fostering positive change. Since the late 1980s Manchester has faced challenges with gun crime, leading to over 47 murders since 1999, but MAV remains dedicated to creating a safer, more supportive environment all.
